For the third time in one weekend thousands of people are without power in Surrey, according to BC Hydro.
On Sunday evening, BC Hydro reported a power outage affecting close to 10,000 customers.
A Surrey resident described the situation in an email.
“This weekend south surrey has seen two days of power outages. First on Saturday shortly before 12 p.m. which lasted for 15 minutes. Then, again around 1 p.m. which lasted for about two hours. The second set of outages were on Sunday around 11:30 a.m. which was for about 20 minutes. The second outage [was] around 9 pm,” they write. “All outages the BC hydro site showed that it was a substation fault.”
Another witness tells NEWS 1130 he saw the sky light up and a small fire break out at a substation around 32nd Street and 152 Avenue Sunday evening.
Surrey Fire & Rescue say they were called to the substation but there is not an active fire and they have been cleared to leave the scene.
BC Hydro crews are investigating.
