Yunneng Wind Power Co Ltd has awarded Sapura Energy Bhd (KLSE:SAPNRG) a transportation and installation (T&I) contract for the turbine foundations at the 640-MW Yunlin offshore wind project in Taiwan.
Germany wind energy firm Wpd AG and Japanese partners own Yunneng Wind.
The Malaysian oil and gas services company announced the order on Thursday as one of 10 contracts it has secured recently, with a combined value of MYR 1 billion (USD 241.5m/EUR 212.5m), across its Engineering & Construction and Drilling segments. Sapura pointed out that the Taiwanese project will be its first in offshore wind.
To be located in the Taiwan Strait, the Yunlin wind farm is slated to become operational in December 2021, using 80 units of Siemens Gamesa’s SG 8.0-167 DD turbines. It will sell power to Taiwan Power Company under a 20-year feed-in tariff (FiT) contract.
